Anne Chaurand

French born guitarist Anne Chaurand has a long established reputation as an exciting solo and chamber music performer.

After graduating both from the RSAMD in Glasgow and the Sorbonne in Paris, she developed her own style of playing and musicianship abroad with Spanish and Cuban Maestros Pepe Romero and Leo Brouwer, with whom she also studied composition.

For over forty years, she has performed as a soloist throughout Scotland as well as in France, Germany, Spain, North Africa, Cuba and Russia. She remained based in Scotland, where she has been in demand as classical guitar teacher and lecturer.

An eclectic musician, she is equally passionate about contemporary and traditional music as well as the classical repertoire. She has commissioned, premiered and recorded several pieces by major composers such as E. McGuire, J. Maxwell Geddes.

As an ensemble musician she toured with mezzo soprano Sandra Porter, and in a variety of small ensembles. She was one of the founder members of Soundstrata, a contemporary music ensemble led by Janet Beat. She also performed along with traditional music groups such as the Whistlebinkies and worked for a few years as a visiting musician with Feis Rois, a Highland based Youth Music Initiative.

Her two solo albums, ‘Celtia’ (Eclectic records, Scottish Arts Council) and ‘Airs d’Ecosse’ reflect the variety of her repertoire along with a strong sense of artistic identity and commitment.

Since 2013 she has made her home in rural Dumfries and Galloway.

Anne plays on guitars made for her by Scottish luthier Michael Ritchie.

Rebecca and Anne met near their homes on the Solway shores in 2023.

Flute and guitar is an idyllic marriage of sounds, and the repertoire is rich and exciting. Playing with Rebecca has also inspired Anne to write new, and transcribe existing works for their duo.

Last year they played several acclaimed concerts in Scotland, enjoying a musical ‘Bon Accord’ and for a start building up their repertoire around music of all periods from France and Scotland, and also Latin America.
